Last week, the kids had a long weekend, so we booked a getaway in Seoul. Though the city is only an hour’s drive from where we live, it was still nice to spend a couple of nights as we explored the Gangnam district without dealing with traffic.
Psy’s catchy song Gangnam Style was hugely popular in 2012 when it hit the music scene and blew away YouTube’s record for number of views. Outside of the Coex Mall in the Gangnam district is this massive sculpture that plays homage to the song that put the area into the global consciousness. Next to the sculpture is a screen that allows visitors to play the video. The song blares obnoxiously loud but quickly ropes you in. I had my kids do the dance, but they’d be mortified if I were to feature them here, so, for your edification, below is a photo of the sculpture, sans kids.
